Abraham did it God’s way
The Torah readings this month include the story of Abraham and the call that God placed on his life.
Scripture tells us that Abraham was a friend of God and that involved becoming the first activist on behalf on God’s truth even though it offended many.
Abraham destroyed his father’s idols instead of adhering to the “politically correct” doctrine of his day. Abraham left the financial comfort of his own community and gave up his social status to go to an unknown destination. Abraham shared his newfound knowledge that there is one God who created all things, he did not give in to the spirit of “pluralism,” and remain silent out of respect for “multiculturalism” Abraham arrived in Shechem and built an altar. He did not keep a low profile, so as not to offend the locals. When God told Abraham, “to your seed will I give this land” he did not politely decline because the land was already occupied. Abraham kept God’s command to circumcise himself and all males born in his household, a practice that separated himself and his descendants from the family of the nations of the world. Abraham laughed with delight when God promised him and Sarah a son, he did not insist that it was medically too risky for an elderly couple to have a child.
Yeshua like Abraham did and said many things that rocked the status quo and offended those who did not put God first. He like Abraham didn’t keep his light under a bushel nor did He pull back from the truth of scripture because it might offend.
If Yeshua and Abraham had played by the Politically correct rules of their day and stayed at home, abandoned their calls and accepted as a fact of life the futility of making a difference our society what would life be like today. We would not have had the moral or ethical codes of God with which we live by today and society would be a different place altogether. This is not counting the fact that we would all be going to hell. So when we talk about a one way to heaven and the restoration of Israel remember it may not be politically correct or even seen as a way to peace but it is God’s way.
