Who will protect the Children of Sderot
Throughout the summer months Kassam rockets continued to hit Sderot Israel every day causing damage and injury. This has largely been ignored by the UK Media. School resumes in Sderot on 2nd September and there are 2,400 primary and secondary school students enrolled in seven schools. On Tuesday 21st August, the Israel High Court of Justice handed down a decision to suspend a ruling ordering the state to fully protect all of the schools in Sderot and the Gaza periphery against Kassam rockets no later than September 2, the first day of the 2007-2008 school year. The court’s decision means the state’s obligation has been indefinitely postponed and the year will open without the schools being fully protected. I spoke to our friend Naomi on Tuesday and she told me that the community of Sderot is bracing itself for the first day of School because HAMAS and Islamic Jihad always fire a barrage of rockets as the children leave their homes on the first day of the school year. The children of Sderot are extremely venerable as they are the targets of those who want to destroy Israeli towns and villages. Towns such as Sderot have been established for more than fifty years in land, which has never been disputed. Even if two states are established will Sderot’s children ever be protected from those who would stoop so low as to target children on their way to school. In the book of John chapter 17 v 11 Yeshua said whilst praying for His disciples “ Father, protect them by the power of your name” Please pray for the children of Sderot that God will protect them.
